Sexual/Beings II: Who isn’t Queer? Exploring Queer Theology in the context of Hong Kong

The publication of this book marks another courageous breakthrough following "Human.Sexuality: The Unavoidable Pastoral Needs of the Hong Kong Church." One of the breakthroughs is that the queer theology explored in this book is publicly discussed and addressed for the first time in the theological field of Hong Kong. Another breakthrough is that the content touched upon in this book is precisely the "sexual" issues that the Hong Kong church and even theological institutions currently taboo and avoid, such as sex work, bisexuality, transgender, sexuality of individuals with disabilities, diverse families, and the most provocative and unconventional, the imagining of diverse desires of queer Christians. A third breakthrough is that the authors of this book approach the construction and reflection of their own theology from the perspective and experience of being actively involved in the local queer movement.

The arguments presented in this book may provoke more questioning and even criticism from people within the church. However, we are determined to face these challenges, not with the intention of deliberately provoking disputes, but with the hope that through this initiative, queers who have long been confined within the "sacred" wardrobe of the church can see the light of day again. We hope that these excluded voices can be heard and respected. More importantly, we aim to inspire readers to reexamine the teachings of the church on sexual ethics and moral judgments from different perspectives, to determine whether there are biases and unjust power relations inherent within them. This process can lead to an understanding of the meaning of the body and desire, living out a life of freedom, openness, and abundance bestowed by the Lord.

Recommended by Rev. Canon Alan Chor-Choi CHAN, the Anglican Diocese of Hong Kong: "Although this book is only a preliminary exploration, it is rich in content, full of sincerity, and presented with a combination of emotions (unreserved expression of true feelings), reason (theological exploration with a spirit of inquiry), and liturgy (worship practices relevant to the situation). It is not only the voice of the wounded but also a firsthand resistance against injustice; it seeks not only identity recognition but also affirms sexual rights; it strives not only for integration into the mainstream but also for ongoing renewal and convergence; it seeks not only vitality for minorities but also depicts a new opportunity for the overall social coexistence. I sincerely hope that everyone who encounters this book will read it carefully."

The book includes 5 sections: Coming Out as Queer, Queer theology, Stigmatization and its Contextual Reflections, Praxis and liturgy.
